Fitbit is building an app store and wants to launch it in 2017

Fitbit CEO and co-founder James Park has revealed that the company wants to launch its own wearable app store. Speaking in an interview at CES, Park said he wanted to launch a dedicated store “as soon as possible” and that building one would be helpful for employers and health care companies that use Fitbit’s fitness trackers for corporate wellness programs. “There are so many different applications [our partners] want to write,” Park said, “from fitness-related ones to pill reminder applications. And we don’t have the support in place for that right now, or any software infrastructure on our devices...

Coollang’s smart fitness clothing counts crunches and squats

Shenzen-based company Coollang has been in the business of making smart tennis and badminton sensors and now it’s turning its attention to smart clothing. Its first range, which includes a sports bra and a running suit are embedded with sensors that are said to be able to deliver heart rate data and recognise motion. So it’ll know when you’re doing a set of push-ups or working on those abs with some crunches. Additionally, it also promises to analyse your external environment monitoring temperature, air quality and humidity. There’s no details on pricing just yet, but here’s hoping it’s more affordable...
