And finally: Fitbit Flex 2 named and more

Think of And finally as a filter system for the wearable tech newsbeat. While the major stories slip through and land on our dedicated news page, the dredges of the web murmur mill end up here.

It’s a one stop shop for catching up with the smaller stories of the week, helping you stay fully up to date in the world of wearable tech…

Fitbit sequels detailed

Well, not detailed in any great detail but we do know that both the Fitbit Flex 2 and the Fitbit Charge 2 are at least part of the activity tracking giant’s future plans.

Fitbit has applied for the trademarks for both, according to a recently uncovered filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

It’s been a big week for Fitbit in the courtroom too – it scored a big win in its long running patent dispute with Jawbone. According to Bloomberg, “Fitbit Inc. won a ruling that invalidated the last of the Jawbone Inc. patents that were the subject of a dispute at the U.S. International Trade Commission.”

Jawbone said it would appeal the patent ruling.

“The two patents that are the subject of the ITC ruling represent only a portion of Jawbone’s case against Fitbit and a small subset of Jawbone’s overall patent portfolio,” the company said in an e-mailed statement. “The court confirmed that Fitbit will face a trial in 10 days on claims that it misappropriated Jawbone’s trade secrets.”

Samsung Gear S3 landing in September

The rumour mill suggests that Samsung will reveal the Gear S3 at IFA 2016 in September and that a luxury model designed by Swiss watchmaker de Grisogono will be on show at Baselword the following March.

“We are currently collaborating with Samsung to develop its next-generation smartwatch,” a de Grisogono official told The Korea Herald.

It’s a similar pattern to what happened with Wareable’s best smartwatch pick, the Samsung Gear S2.

Will.i.am nonsense

Will.i.am has another wearable on sale. We know, we know, we wish he’d give it up already too. But he does and, if you’re a bit crazy, you can buy one.

The i.am+ dial is available from from Three in the UK, starting at £24 per month with £49 upfront, or £25 monthly with a £19 payment. Yep, the dial requires you to take out a new contract. Or ditch your phone altogether. Exactly.

Xiaomi smartwatch incoming this year

This week Xiaomi launched a kids GPS smartwatch, named the Mi Bunny, but it was not quite the smartwatch we were waiting for. However, the much touted Xiaomi smartwatch should be landing sometime in 2016.

Liu De, VP of Xiaomi revealed at a conference in Beijing that “the Mi smartwatch does exist and is ready” and will launch in the second half of 2016. That’s according to Gizmochina.

Don’t forget, we’re also expecting the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 to launch sometime soon as well.

Make sure you check out our review of the latest Xiaomi wearable, the Mi Band Pulse.
